GORDON ST GARAGE
20/06/'13

travel tip,
Coming from Wellington St station?
Take the Yellow Cat to Harbour Town.
Don't walk in heels for 1.6 km like we did.

first impressions,    indie. Absolutely, indie. As soon as you enter, you know you're in for a treat. It was bustling, and it was refreshing. Waiters traverse about with smiles and plates of delicious food as you make your way to your table. You can easily spot a pair of suspenders or fedora among the throng, and you know you can definitely come back here dressed a little more like your kooky self next time.

the menu,    my girlfriend Elise and I reached the restaurant at around12:30 pm, so it meant we were given the lesser-known lunch menu. Despite our (lack of) kitchen expertise, we couldn't understand much of the menu descriptions besides 'lamb', 'chicken', and the odd vegetable. Unless you know what  'quinoa' or a 'kofta' is, expect to whip out Google or Urban Spoon (or this blog) for pictures like we did.

Prices were in the $12-20 range. Pretty acceptable for the average university student. :-)

the food,    we were both very impressed by how quickly the food arrived. I ordered the Lamb Kofta (right) and Elise ordered the Two Sliders (below). We both wished our meals were a little bigger, but we were pleased by them overall. They both tasted good!

the highlight,    now, I get to tell you about our favourite dish... the Pannacotta (above). One word: delicious! The jam is a nice kick of flavour and the pannacotta was neither bland or too sweet. A hands-down recommendation to anyone who's still a little hungry after their meal.

Just an additional note, there is no desert menu, to order dessert, take a look at the selection on showcase at the centre of the restaurant (left). A waiter/waitress will take your order at your table. :-)

     verdict

Gordon St Garage is a restaurant you must experience. What lets it down is the size of the meals. But other than that, I can think of nothing negative about this experience. Love the dessert options.

Definitely returning.

stay stellar,
steph.
